The following excerpts from the 4 out of 5 Supreme Court Judges that dissented.

Why Four Justices Were Against the Supreme Court’s Huge Gay-Marriage Decision –

While Roberts said he did not “begrudge” any of the celebrations that would follow the Court ruling, he had serious concerns that the Court had extended its role from constitutional enforcer to activist.

Scalia wrote that while he has no personal opinions on whether the law should allow same-sex marriage, he feels very strongly that it is not the place of the Supreme Court to decide.

According to Scalia, the five justices in the majority are using the 14th Amendment in a way that was never intended by its writers. “When the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868, every State limited marriage to one man and one woman, and no one doubted the constitutionality of doing so,” he wrote.

“They [the majority] have discovered in the Fourteenth Amendment a ‘fundamental right’ overlooked by every person alive at the time of ratification, and almost everyone else in the time since.”

Scalia called out the majority for acting like activists, not judges. (He was similarly critical in Thursday’s ruling on health care.) “States are free to adopt whatever laws they like, even those that offend the esteemed Justices’ ‘reasoned judgment,’” he wrote.

Further, the long-standing legal understanding of liberty does not encompass the rights the majority opinion says it does, Thomas argues. Liberty has “long been understood as individual freedom from government action, not as a right to a particular governmental entitlement.”

Thomas additionally warns that the Court’s “inversion of the original meaning of liberty will likely cause collateral damage to other aspects of our constitutional order that protect liberty.” Further, he argues that the decision will threaten religious liberty by creating an unavoidable collision between the interests of same-sex couples and some religious organizations.

“In our society, marriage is not simply a governmental institution; it is a religious institution as well,” Thomas wrote. “Today’s decision might change the former, but it cannot change the latter. It appears all but inevitable that the two will come into conflict, particularly as individuals and churches are confronted with demands to participate in and endorse civil marriages between same-sex couples.”

Alito: “For millennia, marriage was inextricably linked to the one thing that only an opposite-sex couple can do: procreate.”

Like his conservative colleagues, Alito worries that the Court is overstepping its power, making sweeping legal changes for every state in the country. He concludes on a warning.

“Even enthusiastic supporters of same-sex marriage should worry about the scope of the power that today’s majority claims,” Alito writes. “Today’s decision shows that decades of attempts to restrain this Court’s abuse of its authority have failed. “

Bruce Jenner Lane

Streets named to honor Bruce Jenner – NBC News

That’s really not very fair to the people who live on Bruce Jenner Lane, Street, Road, Avenue. The streets were named in honor of Bruce Jenner the man who won in the Olympics. That wasn’t Caitlyn back then it was Bruce!  If they or she wants to change it don’t!  Or like one man said in the article “find another idol”.  This is my opinion.

Americans need a break in gas prices.  Give us time.  We are not use to low gas prices, therefore we aren’t use to buying more and driving farther.  But give us time and we will adjust and demand will follow.  For years now we have been use to paying over $4 per gallon ouch!  It hurt and hurt and hurt and hurt!  Now you expect us to immediately do a turn around and start buying more quickly!  Give us a break because we NEED it!  Time for YOU guys to shut up and let us get use to these new low prices which we use to be use to years and years ago!

Thanksgiving is coming up, then Christmas!  Wow, to be able to have more money in the pocket book to go shopping and drive farther.  How nice!  So please don’t pour cold water on this blessing of low gas prices!  We are tired of hurting!

mosul_2980176bIraqi Christians leave city en masse after Islamist militants threatened to kill them unless they converted to Islam or paid a ‘protection tax’

Christian families streamed out of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Saturday after Islamist fighters said they would be killed if they did not pay a protection tax or convert to Islam.

“For the first time in the history of Iraq, Mosul is now empty of Christians,” Patriarch Louis Sako lamented as hundreds of families fled ahead of a noon deadline set by Islamic State for them to submit or leave.

The warning was read out in Mosul’s mosques on Friday afternoon, and broadcast throughout the city on loudspeakers.

“We offer [Christians] three choices: Islam; the dhimma contract – involving payment… if they refuse this they will have nothing but the sword,” the announcement read.

Washington Mudslide

(Reuters) – The death toll from a devastating weekend landslide in Washington state could rise to 24 on Tuesday after rescue workers recovered two bodies and believed they had located eight more, the local fire chief said.

The discovery of additional bodies came as crews searched under drizzly skies for survivors of the mudslide amid fading hopes that anyone could still be plucked alive from the massive pile of muck and debris.

jp-HEALTH-articleLarge NYTIMES WASHINGTON — Under intense bipartisan pressure to answer mounting consumer complaints about the botched health care rollout, White House officials are struggling to make good on President Obama’s promise that Americans can keep their insurance coverage without undermining the new health law or adding unaffordable costs.

After the president’s apology last week for wrongly assuring Americans that they could retain their health plans if they wanted, senior White House aides said the president wanted to ensure that people who were forced off older policies with less comprehensive coverage were not stuck with higher monthly premiums to replace their insurance. But administration officials declined to say how they might achieve that goal, how much it would cost or whether it would require congressional approval.

(Reuters) – Initial enrollment estimates for President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform program show participation is falling far short of expectations, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, raising pressure on the White House to get its rollout back on track.

Fewer than 50,000 Americans were able to sign up for new Obamacare health insurance plans in October through the error-plagued website, below the federal government’s target, the newspaper reported on Monday, citing two people familiar with the matter. The data is from 36 states.

US_typhoon Fox News - Reuters Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel on Sunday directed the U.S. Pacific Command to support American humanitarian relief efforts in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

Col. Brad Bartelt, a Marine Corps spokesman, said the U.S. military was called in at the request of the Philippines government.

Haiyan struck the island nation Friday, impacted more than 4.2 million people across 36 provinces in the Philippines, according to the Philippine government’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The death toll has reached 1,000 but the number is projected to climb to 10,000.

Barack Obama Posted by Wandafay

When the Obamacare website debuted on Oct. 1, Barack Obama walked into the Rose Garden and compared it to, and the iPhone. Unlike those operated by the other three, the Affordable Care Act portals to buy insurance were not working that day — but the President explained that the “glitches” had to do with traffic that “exceeds anything that we had expected.” Five days later, when asked about the continued problems, he told the Associated Press, “It is true that what’s happened is the website got overwhelmed by the volume.”
